MESENS, E. L. T. (1903-71). Poèmes 1923-1958. Paris: Le Terrain Vague, 1959. Small 4° (188 x 142mm). Half title, 10 full-page illustrations by René Magritte. Original printed wrappers (some light staining, some wear to head and foot of backstrip).
PRESENTATION COPY TO GEORGE MELLY, the half title exuberantly inscribed in pen and red and blue felt tip, "Célébration des fêtes Victoriennes. A Vicky [scored through] et l' ami George Melly, ces [Poèmes] témoignages de 35 ans de laborieux services dans le monde des arts et de l' imposture trafiquante et RIDICULE. La vie, la poèsie ... E. L. T. Mesens." In addition, the title is inscribed, "De Chasse", the front free endpaper and half title are decorated with coloured symbols and diagrams, and the title is inscribed "Maman." There are also a few corrections to the text. In 1997, George Melly published a biography of Mesens.
