Cette série de dessins réalisée dans un format semblable à une pellicule de film ou à une bande-dessinée a pu être conçue afin d'illustrer un magazine ou une partition ayant pour sujet une jeune femme interrogeant l'amour en effeuillant une marguerite: "Il m'aime, il ne m'aime pas." De même que Bonnard, Vuillard réalisa des études de femmes fantaisistes au début des années 1890. Les deux artistes ont pu être inspirés par les mangas découverts dans les livres illsutrés par Hokusaï.

Possibly designed to illustrate a magazine or a song sheet, this series of drawings in a format like that of a film strip or comic book traces a young woman's test of her fortunes in a daisy: "He loves me, he loves me not." Vuillard, too, made such whimsical figure studies in the early 1890s. Both he and Bonnard may have been inspired by the manga, or comic sketches, in Hokusaï's illustrated pocketbooks.
