Dom Pérignon Oenothèque--Vintage 1973
Disgorged 1999. In original wooden presentation case
Tasting note: magnums in 1986: perfect age, perfect drink. Surprisingly sweet and rich (I used to find the Dom dry and austere), with lovely flavour and length. Eleven years later, at a pre-sale tasting in New York: very pale for its age (24) and not much sparkle; sweet, slightly caramelised; also some sweetness on the palate, and pleasantly, lightly frothy. Most recently, the youngest of the Dom vintages, disgorged three months prior to arrival in Australia. Still pale; 'warm' rich nose; soft, sweet, à point. A very pleasant drink, holding surprisingly well. At Len Evans' 70th birthday, Hunter Valley, Sept 2000 ****. Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine
