Tasting note: Pinot Noir 50 Chardonnay 30 Pinot Meunier 20 A final blend of 30 different wines. Ten notes, first made at the launch of the '85s in May 1994 - nine years after the vintage. Already creamy, elegant, perfect weight and flavour. 'Not a heavyweight Krug' I noted. Tasted, drunk, on several memorable occasions since. At a blind British Airways tasting in January 1997 it was selected by our panel, and I had the pleasure of sipping it on Concorde to New York that September. Bottle variation at Kaplan's '85s tasting but, when last tasted, in magnums, it was excellent. Several times I noted an extraordinary, very individual scented character. The sort of wine that reveals extra dimensions on the rare occasions one is not distracted by the social event at which it is served. Last tasted at Hatchlands, Surrey, Dec 2000. *****. (Wine sales only). Christie's charges a Buyer's premium calculated at 17.850% of the hammer price for each lot with a value up to €150,000. If the hammer price of a lot exceeds €150,000 then the premium for the lot is calculated at 17.850% of the first €150,000 plus 11.9% of any amount in excess of €150,000. Buyer's Premium is calculated on this basis for each lot individually.
