A large jewelled and enamelled silver-mounted wooden bread and salt platter
Cyrillic mark of Ivan Klebnikov with the Imperial warrant, Moscow, 1908-1917
Circular, the carved oak platter applied with embossed, chased and engraved silver plaques in the pan-Slavic style set with fourteen cabochon hardstones, the indented circular centre depicting Saint George and the dragon, with enamelled sky and engraved around the upper rim, the upper shaped plaque depicting four boyars offering bread and salt, the lower plaque with an inscription flanked by foliage, flowers and scrolls, fully marked
18¼ in. (46.1 cm.) diameter
The Russian inscription on the central rim is dated '19 18/1 12' and is translated in the lower plaque as: 'To the Representatives of the English Nation from the Moscow Municipality'.
