Lot Essay

Compare with another identical glass snuff bottle illustrated in Moss, Graham, Tsang, The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle. The J & J Collection, vol.2, p.585, pl.350.
The authors explain that this group of bottles are characterised by their lobed tapering cylindrical forms and borders enhanced by lingzhi bands and lotus petals. They are attributed to the Palace workshops, Beijing.
Some bottles in aquamarine colour are illustrated in Sotheby's Hong Hong, 17 November 1973, lot 321 ; Chinese Snuff Bottles (Hong Kong Museum of Art) no.48 ; and Sotheby's London, 7 October 1975, lot 64.
