The seated, bulky figure of the Evangelist dominating the icon; in a contrapostal manner turning back and gazing to the heavens, thus suggesting his listening to the Word of God, on his lap a large book with interlaced decoration and the figure of Christ on its cover; to his left the his apocalyptic personification, the Eagle, with a stylus in its beak; painted realistically against a rocky background; the cut-out halo of the silver-gilt oklad with a pierced rim
