A rare Gilbert Road Race set comprising: a blue plastic Aston Martin DB5 (with rear shield), a red hardtop Ford Mustang, six 'snap-together' moulded landscaped track sections, two moulded mountain sections, one elevated road section, a power pack, various trackside accessories, two speed controls, in original illustrated cardboard box -- 17x24in. Lot Essay

In 1965, the Gilbert Road Race set was one of the most expensive and elaborate 007 toys to be made. It retailed in 1965 at $50.00, and was an instant success in The States. Unfortunately it soon acquired the reputation of being extremely unreliable.
