Second edition. Woodes Rogers was commander-in-chief of two men-of-war fitted out by Bristol merchants to cruise against the Spaniards in the South Sea. He reached Juan Fernandez in 1709, and found Alexander Selkirk; then proceeded to the coast of Peru, sacked Guayaquil, and after several engagements returned to England in 1711.
