4o (249 x 171 mm). Illustrated throughout with woodcuts (including two folding plates, some double-page and many full-page), initials and decorations. (Paper flaw affecting text on N1, 2Y1 torn affecting text, some browning and staining.) Contemporary sheep (lower board detached, extremities worn). Provenance: W. Gedney Beatty (1869-1941), American architect (gifted to): The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Department of Prints (bookplate recording the bequest, cancelled).

A reprint of the Venice quarto edition of 1567 with some corrections and additions. The title-page border of the 1584 edition is used here as a divisional title. The dedication by de Vecchi is dated 1629 and the preface which appears under his name is the same as the one signed by Francesco de Franceschi Sanese in both the 1567 and 1584 editions. Fowler 416.
