"; c3 "To the Conservers and Enlargers of the Liberties of this Nation"; 1 [leaf unsigned] "To the Reader"; C4-H4 "Virginia in Generall;" I4 "The Table" from the second issue (supplied in facsimile, not required for the first issue). Wood-engraved title-page device of braid and flowers, head-pieces and initials. (Lacking A1 [blank], some leaves closely cropped affecting first line of text of B4, and the pagination of C3 and E2, some corners creased, some spotting, a few marginal tears.) Modern half speckled calf, marbled boards antique. Provenance: Contemporary annotations on verso of [H4].

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with integral title-page, the title printed in 11 lines, the imprint in 4, page 26 mispaginated as 34, page 27 as 35, page 30 as 39, page 31 as 38, no "Errata" on c4v, text ending on page 47. An early promotional booklet encouraging emigration to Virginia, much of the information gathered by the author from John Farrer (died 1657) whose A mapp of Virginia... was published in 1651. RARE: according to American Book Prices Current only one other copy of the first edition has appeared at auction in the last 25 years: Sotheby's, June 25, 1987, lot 422; not in the Streeter Sale.
