A RARE CINNABAR TIXI LACQUER CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
YUAN-EARLY MING DYNASTY, 13TH-15TH CENTURY
The upper surface of the cover is carved in deep relief through the thick cinnabar lacquer with bands of spectacle-shaped ruyi scrolls radiating from three central ruyi-heads, the scrolls extending to the gently curved sides of the cover, the box similarly decorated with two rows of ruyi, interiors and the base with a dark brown lacquer
