A FINELY CARVED WHITE JADE 'LION AND CUB' GROUP
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The large recumbent beast carved in the round holding the ribbon of a brocade ball between its clenched teeth, his massive head finely detailed with bulbous eyes below prominent spiral eyebrows and curled fur swept, covering the length of its back, the young cub resting on its back looking at the adult, similarly portrayed with one paw resting playfully on the ribbon, the stone of a well-polished creamy white tone with minor russet inclusions
