A RARE PALE CELADON JADE ARCHAISTIC VASE AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY

Of flattened baluster form, well carved standing on an integral oval stand raised on four scroll-feet formed by archaistic dragons, the vase flanked on the waisted neck by a pair of stylised kui dragon scroll handles, and carved in low relief with overlapping lappets enclosing fine keyfret, the mouth rim and base with bands of zoomorphic symbols, repeated around the cover and surmounted by a chrysanthemum-bud finial, the stone of an even pale celadon tone

It is unusual to find a jade vase carved with an integral stand in imitation the elaborate bronzes of the Eastern Zhou period (770-256 BC).
