A RARE FAMILLE ROSE OVAL-SHAPED NARCISSUS TRAY
TONGZHI EARLY GUANGXU PERIOD (1862-1908)

Of elongated oval form raised on six low feet, delicately enamelled on the exterior to depict blue morning glories borne on vines with feathery leaves, inscribed in iron-red below the mouth rim with the characters, Dayazhai, beside the Tian Di Yi Jia Chun sealmark, the broad flat mouth rim with a blue enamel keyfret band, the interior applied with a light turquoise enamel, the base bearing an iron-red mark Yong Qing Chang Chun

Lot Essay

An identical tray of this same pattern but with coral-ground is in Beijing Palace Museum collection, illustrated in Guanyang Yuci, The Forbidden City Publishing House, 2007, p. 181. According to the note accompanying the sketch, four pairs of white and red-ground trays of this shape and pattern were commissioned, see op. cit., p. 180, no. 40 (fig. 1).
