A PAIR OF SMALL JADEITE VASES AND COVERS
QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Each vase is of flattened baluster form, carved in high relief on the waisted neck with a pair of clambering chilong, above an incised taotie mask on each of the flattened sides, raised on a splayed foot, each of the covers of conforming shape; and a jadeite fan-shaped plaque, carved on one flattened side in relief with a longtailed phoenix in flight above rockwork, the other side with a descending dragon striding above water, the top of the fan decorated with a flower-blossom pierced with an aperture for attachment
