Of elliptical section with an undulating mouth rim, the sides finely carved with prunus blossoms, dividing two poetic verses, the first in clerical script, lishu, and the other in running script, xingshu, followed by Meilin Shanren shu, 'Written by Meilin Shanren'

Lot Essay

It is probable that the name 'Meilin Shanren' identifies the bamboo carver Wang Meilin, a native of Jiading, who is recorded in Zhongguo Meishu Jiaren Mingcidian, Shanghai renmin meishu chubanshe, 1985, p. 104.
