On shaped circular base, repoussé with rocks and foliage, the horse on its hind legs, saint George holding a spear, marked on base and with assay scrape

This figure is undoubtedly a representation of saint George, the rider searching the ground for his prey while brandishing a lance. Saint George was the accepted symbol of Christian knighthood in both catholic and protestant courts and as such, he came to epitomise the fight against the infidels.

Ce cavalier est sans aucun doute une représentation de saint Georges, et cela malgré l'absence de dragon probablement disparu, le personnage semblant chercher sa proie et tenant une lance. Saint Georges était admis comme le symbole de la chevalerie chrétienne dans les cours catholiques comme dans les cours protestantes. En tant que tel, il était perçu, lorsqu'il décorait la table, comme une allusion à la lutte contre les infidèles.
