A LARGE EGYPTIAN BRONZE OSIRIS
THIRD INTERMEDIATE PERIOD, DYNASTY XXI-XXII, 1070-712 B.C.
Solid cast, with meticulous cold worked details, the god depicted mummiform atop a trapezoidal plinth, his arms folded across the chest, his fisted hands emerging from beneath his vestment, right over left, holding a crook and flail, wearing a broad collar with a counterweight on the reverse, and an atef crown consisting of a miter flanked by ostrich plumes above ram horns, fronted by a uraeus serpent, its body looped and extending upward towards the tip of the miter, the triangular face with idealizing features including convex eyes with pointed inner canthi, the upper lids, cosmetic lines and conforming brows in raised relief and outlined by incision, a slender nose and a small mouth pursed into a slight smile, the philtrum indicated, the plaited false beard coiled at the tip, joined to the chest by a strut, the strap incised
