Lot Essay

Born in Dresden in 1728, Meyer moved to Berlin in 1751 to continue to pursue his career as a theatre scenery and vedute artist. This painting depicts a similar low panoramic view as other works by the artist, such as View of the Neue Palais and Potsdam of 1771, now at Sanssouci, Potsdam, near Berlin, derived from Bernardo Bellotto.
