The brothers Jean Baptiste (1841-1910) and Gustave (1843-1909) Germain were both pupils of Augustin Dumont (1801-1884) and Charles Gumery (1827-1871). They worked together in producing classical and historical statuettes and groups. Jean Baptiste exhibited at the Salon between 1866 and 1909, for instance with Didon et Enée in 1876 and Excelsior in 1896 (P.Kjellberg, Les Bronzes du XIXe siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 357). Gustave exhibited at the Salon from 1881 onwards.
