the mother-of-pearl handle carved with a griffin surmounted by an engraved oval reserve flanked by two wings, centred with a gilt plaque engraved with a coronet above the letters 'Ta', the gilt-metal mount chased with bands of vertical reeding, the matrix engraved with spiraling concentric circles; square white card box faced with brown paper, containing a letter reading 'Geranium Leaf brought from Napoleon's tomb at St. Helena by Wingfield April 1866' folded around a pressed geranium leaf

Provenance
A paper label attached to the box is inscribed, 'This Seal once belonged to and was used by the Duke of Wellington and was given by his niece Miss Fitzroy to the Revr W. E. Chapman'
