The identification of the subject should read: The glorification of King Ferdinand of Castilia (1199-1252), canonised in 1671.

Lot Essay

The identification as Ferdinand is supported by the hardly readable scutcheon held by the putto at the left. The three crowned turbans might refer to many of Ferdinand's conquests of Moorish capitals, such as Granada, Tripoli and Algiers. The city in the background is possibly a view of Granada.
