Lot Essay

The present work is a study for the 1984 painting Harmony which is illustrated in Andrew Lambirth's book Allen Jones Works, p. 116, no. 111. He comments 'Harmony is all pinks and greens with passages of red and yellow, and a little violet blue. In it, the banjo player and luscious singer have come to a table near you in the club to perform ... the party is a crowded, claustrophobic, sexy subject and he makes the very best of it' (A. Lambirth, Allen Jones Works, London, 2005, p. 113).
