Soldiers on horseback by a hamlet

Can be compared to a group of 53 drawings by Cavaleiro de Faria in the Museu National de Arte Antiga, Lisbon (see Dessin. La Collection du MNAA, exhib. cat., Lisbon, Museu National de Arte Antiga, 1994, nos. 17-9). As the rigorous lines, the extensive hatching as well as the use of a dark brown ink may suggest, the artist was also an etcher who specialized in pastoral and military subjects.
