Lot Essay

Illustrates a play by Eugène Scribe, Le nouveau Pourceaugnac, Paris, 1817. It was made into an opera by Catterino Cavos played in Saint Petersburg in 1819. The present drawing might have been made on that occasion as would suggest the Russian military costumes worn by the masculine figures.
