Lot Essay

From 1909 onwards, Bakst worked closely with Serge Diaghilev on set and stage designs for the Ballet Russes including Cleopatra in 1909, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scherezade in 1910 and Daphnis et Chloé in 1912. In 1914 Bakst was elected a member of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
