POSSIBLY FLEMISH, MID 19TH CENTURY
Carved with the beheading of John the Baptist and with Salome presents the head of John the Baptist to Herodias in a beaded border, flanked by stiff leaf foliage amongst masks, fruits and surmounted by an Evangelist in Roman arch and a band with text, another text band below, both indistinct inscribed, the reverse similarly carved, centered by a mirror plate, and surmounted by a female figure in Roman arch and a text band above and below the mirror
