Modelled with a man known as Governor Duff seated beside his wife at either side of a small table with a glass in their hands, he in a frock coat and with a tricorn hat similar to his son standing to the right, the mother and daughter dressed in skirts and hooded cloaks, all on a shaped pedestal with a small dog, a monkey and a jardinière, some repair

The main male figure is known as Governor Duff, the nickname for Diederik Duiver, Governor of the Dutch East India Company. However, since he only took up office in 1729 (until 1731), and similar groups have been found on the bills of lading of ships of the East India Companies from the beginning of the 18th Century, this attribution is now doubted.
