Decorated overall with scenes of the Dutch whale-oil factory on Amsterdam Island, the front and back decorated with whaling hunt, the sides with terrestrial globes and coats-of-arms, with hinged cover and carrying handle to either side

Lot Essay
The scene on the lid is the whale-oil factory of the Amsterdam Chamber of the Greenland Company on Amsterdam Island near Spitzbergen, originally painted by Cornelis de Man in 1639, now in the Rijksmuseum.
