Lot Essay

The stamp JACOB.FRERES RUE MESLEE was used by the two sons of Georges Jacob; Georges II and François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter, in use from 1796-1803. After the death of Georges II, the workshop was continued by Georges senior and François-Honoré under the name Jacob Desmalter. The stamp JACOB.D. R. MESLEE was used between 1803 and 1813. The fact that the tabourets are marked with both stamps lead to a date of circa 1803.
