Lot Essay

The closest possible source for the Antinous bust from the present pair is the Farnese Antinous, now preserved in the Naples National Archaeological museum. The bust can not have been a direct copy of the original hence the variations in treatment of the hair, however the general posturing of the head to dexter is the same.
