Lot Essay

Another cast of a larger model is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Les bronzes du XIXème siècle. Dictionnaire des sculpteurs, Paris, 1989, p. 618.
The gesso model was exhibited at the Salon in 1884 as number 3916 and at the World Exhibition of 1889 as number 2153. This model is now kept in the Museum of Semur-en-Auxois. A bronze cast of 245 cm. high was ordered by the French state in 1885 and is now still in a public parc in Briançon, France.
