This panel is related to the work of Bartolommeo Bulgarini, the artist called 'Ugolino-Lorenzetti' by Berenson.
Roger Warner noted that the triangular picture, which he called 'almost of Ikon style', may have belonged to 'Mr Wentworth-Huish, [who] did much Church work in the 1870 period'. Warner no doubt found it significant that this example of the rich decoration deployed with a sense of both piety and beauty in the churches of Renaissance Italy may have been of interest to a figure active in the so-called High Victorian Gothic period of English church architecture, when designers and craftsment sought to emulate the splendour of mediaeval design. Always attentive to the most minute details regarding the provenance of his stock, Warner even noted that the picture had 'hung high up on wall at foot of stairs in Trinder House'. He marked the work 'Important' in his files.
