Trumpet-based candlesticks were produced in brass, pewter, silver and earthenware, predominantly between 1650 and 1680. Their inclusion in contemporary art of the period, such as Edward Collier's (c.1640-1706) Vantiasi (Museum Bredius, The Hague) alongside rare and valuable collectables, testifies to their desirability. (see Eloy Koldeweij, The English Candlestick: 500 years in the development of base-metal candlesticks 1425-1925, London, 2001, cats., 17-21).
