With rectangular apertures in nozzle, restored
6 in. (15 cm.) high
Together with an English Commonwealth leaded bronze mortar, dated 1653, with initials raised on tablets in triad form 'B.R.G.' dated 1653 - 5½ in. (14 cm.) diameter (2)

Lot Essay

Candlesticks with this particular style of dished capstan base usually have disc knopped cylindrical stems as opposed to ribbed stems, but one example illustrated in Christopher Bangs, The Lear Collection, Cat No. 27, does have ribbed elements in the stem.
