Roger Warner's grandfather Metford Warner (d.1930) owned the wallpaper manufacturing company Jeffrey & Co., and he revolutionised the British wallpaper industry by refusing to accept that the only source of original design was France, a belief reflected by public taste. Metford Warner employed Walter Crane, C.F.A Voysey, Owen Jones, Charles Eastlake, William Burges, Bruce J. Talbert and Edward W. Godwin to produce designs for wallpapers. He was influenced by the philosophy of William Morris, and Jeffrey & Co, had the honour of producing all Morris's designs for wallpapers.
