Engraved overall with floral trellis and garlands, the detached two-draw 1-inch telescope mounted with garlands and acanthus clasp, on four foliate wrapped S-shaped supports, above a square base and platform, fitted with a drawer, ring handle, 'unsigned'

Lot Essay

These telescopes were probably luxury goods, and presentation pieces as the quality of these examples are over and above what one would normally have expected. They might have been presents for members of the Emperor's court as the 'Hartwell' was heading for China.
