A scrimshaw whale's tooth depicting the female pirate "Fanny Campbell"**
American; 19th century
[unsigned], delicately drawn and inked in polychrome colors, showing the female pirate in a plumed hat and a cinched waist outfit with two pistols in her belt, a cutlass in her right hand, and a pirate flag in her left. The recto is blank.
5½ in. (14 cm.) length.
