A model of the U.S.S. Monitor
William E. Hitchcock (American, 1928-2006)
built up in wood veneers and painted with a black bottom with anchor under the bow and propeller and rudder at the stern, the topsides completely finished with modeled plating and rivets and painted a dark grey, the deck detailed with jackstaff with Jack, bollards, deck box, cleats, central turret with a pair of Dahlgren cannons and a railing and circular canopy at the top, flagstaff with the American flag. Displayed on a pair of turned brass pedestals, on a mahogany base with a brass bound glass case.
