'POISSON DE GRANDE PROFONDEUR', 1920
In brown patinated bronze with gold highlights

Animal subjects assumed a primary place in Sandoz's sculpture from 1920, eclipsing his interest in the human figure. He exhibited a series of casts of imaginative studies of fish in the Salon des Artistes Dcorateurs; these were enhanced with subtle patinas that demonstrated his technical mastery and his familiarity with Japanese traditions. He worked from life, studying closely the creatures of the aquatic kingdom, notably at the Oceanographic Institute in Monaco

Lot Essay

Cf.
