La déesse de la santé, à moitié nue, dotée de son attribut, le serpent, roulé autour de son bras gauche, assise sur un tronc d'arbre, accompagnée d'un jeune homme tenant une couronne de fleurs et d'une femme regardant vers la droite; dans une monture en or et une bordure rectangulaire décorée de feuillages en relief soulignés d'émail bleu roi, sur un fond en écaille de tortue, enchâssé dans un cadre associé en bronze doré

A CARVED SARDONYX CAMEO OF A SACRIFICE AT THE ALTAR OF HYGIEIA
CIRCA 1800
The goddess of health, half naked, with her attribute, a snake, coiled around her left arm, seated on a tree trunk, attended by a youth holding a floral crown and by a woman facing to the right; in a gold mount and rectangular surround decorated with raised trails of foliage outlined in royal blue enamel, applied to a tortoiseshell ground within an associated gilt-bronze frame

The composition of the present cameo derives from a rock crystal intaglio by Valerio Belli formerly in the Strozzi Collection and now in the British Museum (see H. Burns et al. La composition de ce camée s'inspire d'une incrustation en cristal de roche par Valerio Belli anciennement dans la collection Strozzi et conservée aujourd'hui au British Museum à Londres (voir H.
