Bearded and naked, seated on a rock covered with the skin of the Nemean lion, holding his club between his legs, his body turned to the right, groundline; in an oval gilt-bronze frame with strapwork decoration, the reverse patterned with foliate arabesques, suspension loop
The theme of Hercules resting from his Labours - which derives from ancient models - is best represented by a gem formerly in the collection of Fulvio Orsini and now in the Cabinet des Médailles, Paris.
