Enveloppé de feuilles de chêne, l'égide indiquée sur l'épaule droite, présenté de trois-quart face, la tête tournée vers la gauche; dans une monture ovale en or appliquée sur un fond d'époque postérieure de forme rectangulaire, en porphyre, et enchâssé dans un cadre associé en bronze doré orné de feuillages, surmonté de volutes, soutenu par un anneau de suspension

A CARVED OVAL CHALCEDONY CAMEO BUST OF JUPITER
17TH OR 18TH CENTURY
Wreathed in oak leaves, aegis indicated on the right shoulder, facing three quarters towards the front, head turned slightly left; in an oval gold mount within later moulded rectangular porphyry ground and associated gilt-bronze frame with leaf moulding surmounted by scrolls supporting a suspension loop
The types derives from a Hellenistic sardonyx cameo from Ephesus in the Museo Archeologico in Venice, which had been copied many times.
