CIRCLE OF MARTIAL YDEUX, MID 16TH CENTURY AND LATER
With three scenes relating to Phaeton and his chariot, the two side panels associated and altered, the casket with four colonnettes, on bun feet

Although the present casket has previously been attributed to Pierre Reymond, the delicate painting technique and distinctive treatment of the hair and horse's manes are closer in style to a set of plaques attributed by Veronique Notin to the enameller Martial Ydeux (Notin, loc. cit.).

Lot Essay

Bien que le coffret ici offert ait autrefois été attribué à Pierre Reymond, le raffinement de la technique de peinture ainsi que le traitement particulier de la chevelure et de la crinière du cheval semblent être plus proches encore d'une série de plaques attribuée à l'émailleur Martial Ydeux par Véronique Notin (Notin, loc. cit.).
