A BRONZE FRAGMENTARY HEAD OF LOUIS XIV WORKSHOP OF FRANCOIS GIRARDON (1628-1715), LATE 17TH OR EARLY 18TH CENTURY
With elaborate perruque and his head turned to sinister, on a modern wooden support and circular ebonised wood socle, the underside with the remains of a paper label; dark brown patina with chocolate high points
The head offered here appears to have come from the same mould as a variant model of Girardon's equestrian bronze of Louis XIV in the Prado Museum, Madrid (illustrated in M. Martin, Les Monuments équestres de Louis XIV, Paris, 1986, p. 115, no. 62).

L'arrière de la tête porte un " C " couronné, poinçon utilisé entre 1745 et 1749. Please note that the back of the head is stamped with a C-couronne hallmark which was used between 1745 and 1749.
