On the exterior ten Swedish coins in sepia and gilt depicting gods or crowns with inscriptions and dates, a rocaille scroll-and-shell border on the rim above, the interior with a cluster of iron-red and gilt flowers beneath a gilt spearhead border

Lot Essay

The coins depicted are Swedish dalers of the 1715-1719 period, issued during the Nordic War in an emergency copper minting. See The Connoisseur, October 1999, Numismatic Sources of Chinese Export Porcelain Decoration by S.S. Mottahedeh. Other coin bowls have been in the collection of Dr. Anton C.R. Dreesman, sold Christie's London, 10 April 2002, lot 438, and in the Mottahedeh collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 30 January 1985, lot 143.
