The square gilt-metal dial with gilt-metal roman and arabic chapter ring signed Nathaniel Hodges and pierced hands, the matted centre with decorated calendar aperture, ringed winding holes, winged cherub spandrels, the single fusee movement with four pillars, verge escapement, rack strike on one bell, pierced and engraved backcock to the backplate engraved with scrolling foliage, the case with carrying handle, and urn-shaped finials to the cushion-moulded top, glazed sides and front door, the moulded base on brass flat bun feet

Nathaniel Hodges joined the Clockmakers' Company in 1681 and was based in Wine Office Courte, Fleete Street.
