Lot Essay

The familiar kraak porselein patterns, with their large, paneled borders in soft late Ming cobalt blue, are rarely found with the additional element of colored enamels. For a discussion of the possible origins of the colored decoration on this dish see M. Rinaldi, Kraak Porselein, London, 1989, pp. 192-4.
