Painted in tones of cobalt blue with an idealized view of a Chinese porcelain factory compound, small figures at work on the various stages of production, including decorating fired vases and mixing tubs of clay, a small dog playing nearby and a smoky kiln in the distance

Lot Essay

This pattern is the ceramic equivalent of the pictorial representations of porcelain and tea production that were made for 18th century Westerners. A smaller platter in the collection of Benjamin F. Edwards III was sold Christie's New York, 20 January 2004, lot 37.
